Conference!

HI PEOPLE!

This is still February 19th 2012 here in Boston, USA, and our great conference ended about 9 hours ago. It was sad :( We’re missing it already.

We are sorry that we are unable to update you guys daily about our trip. But to sum up, we arrived in Boston in February 15th and we adapted to the weather there. It’s quite cold, with average of 6-ish, maybe? But we manage to survive, hehe.

THEN, the fun part began! The conference started! Before, on the evening of February 15th, we started to mingle with the delegates. We went to the lobby, and we met hundreds of delegates. We went to the supermarket, and we met other delegates. It is like a city full of delegates! We are pumped to start the conference already. The next day, we started with the opening ceremony in which we met a diverse group of students. There were the festive Venezuelan, the exotic Colombians, the friendly Americans, the humble Asians, and many others! Then we started the first session! In the first session, we introduced stances, chose topics, start to create allies and blocs. Oh, and in this first and second day, we found a food court in which they sell rice!!! (Trust us, you’ll die for rice here in America!) It is called Osaka Express. The social event held in the first day was Club Night.

The second day went as amazing as the first. We found a very nice place for breakfast, called Au Bon Pain. They are nearby and they sell nice foods. The writer’s personal favorite was the soup (they have clam chowder, chicken egg noodle, and some varied selections). The second day, we had our working papers working on already, the blocs were clearly visible, and the intense debate started to begun. The social event held in the second day was Cocktail Hour. Here, national dress/cocktail dress is encouraged, thus we decided to wear a national dress! The girls wore Baju Bodo, Baju Toraja, and Baju Kalimantan Timur. The boys wore a costume from Southern Sulawesi. All the costumes – excluding Baju Kalimantan Timur – are rented from UKSS (Unit Kesenian Sulawesi Selatan) ITB.

The third day was the most intense! We need to start passing working papers and draft resolution - and directives in the Historical General Assembly, the writer’s committee, and we have to vote it. The blocs started to merge, and the two big blocs and allies started to attack each other. It is so fun! The social event is Delegate Dance, in which the conference rooms are turned into a dancefloor!

The fourth day – sadly, the last day – were the last session in which we are to vote on resolutions. Some of the committees fail to pass a resolution while others can pass it. Here, the DAIS and the directors - and basically, the room - have changed into a more friendly manner that we even chose superlative awards! Superlative awards are those like the best dress, most-likely-to-send-roses-to-himself, best tie, best shoe, etc. Haha! This made the delegates in the room to be closer to each other. Aww.

But the MOST INTERESTING PART OF THE TRIP was………….*drum rolls*

ITB WON THE HONORABLE MENTION!!

It was won by Andhika Nugraha (IF ’10) and Hendra (TK ’08) from the Legal Committee. This is the only award won by universities from Asia this year. This is the only award won by universities in Indonesia this year. This is the first award ITB has ever won. We are glad.

Thank you, guys, for your true and constant support this far. We are glad to go home bringing something. We are truly grateful.

Well, now we have to catch a bus to DC! We’ll update to you soon :) )))
